225/40 R18 Tyre Review Highlights

while driving a Audi A3
These tires came as factory tires on my Audi A3. It’s a tire that takes a while to warm up. Once it’s warmed up, it grips well. However, even though it’s a 150 HP car, it tends to spin its wheels more than expected in 1st and 2nd gears. It can also exhibit understeer in corners. I’m not entirely sure how much of this is due to the car itself. I didn’t like its performance in the rain at all. It fell short of my expectations. Also not exactly a quiet tire.

Used these many times now across 2 cars covering over 30000.Mainly used on fast B and 15% roads on A roads both in the dry and wet from freezing cold to really warm (25C).
Great fun in all conditions although not the most grip overall compared to PS4/5.Comfort/noise are good also.
However given the price significant price difference,I've bought these at £95,and the fun factor I will defo buy again.

Wow! what can i say, I bought these tyres based on Tyrereviews tests and reviews. I had the Michelin Pilot 4 prior to these. I tend to do a mix of city and highway driving. The first thing i ve noticed is that turn in to corners has improved significantly. In fact, it took a couple of weeks for me to readjust my steering inputs, as i didn't need to turn the steering as much into corners. It made the car feel more agile. Grip is at least on the same level as the Michelin. It feels a little firmer in ride comfort but their isnt a big difference overall. On motorways I noticed that the Goodyears' are also quieter as well, which i wasn't expecting. Overall these are a big step up on the the Michelins as they seem to feel significantly sportier. Im very happy with these tyres. Thanks Tyresreviews!

I have driven these tires for about 500km now. i had the ps5 before. I noticed that these tires understeer a lot with a fwd car with a heavy nose 59/41. No matter the setup of the car, the tires wont bite at the front like the ps5 did. They were good for road use, but after 30 mins of driving at a low speed track (max 120kph) the tread looks horrible and I dont think they will last even a year, they understeer a lot under the weight of the nose. I have driven the same track with the Ps5 2 years ago, the balance was neutral with the occasional oversteer. With these tires, I cant even make the car oversteer if I'll try my best, even if I up the rear pressure to 3.1 bar. Just understeer. On the road they work well, they have a lot of straight line traction. They work especially wel in the rain, but they cant handle hard driving. Unlike my ps5 tires that lasted 50.000km. Will be putting SC7 or PS5 on the front axle as these are able to handle a heavy nosed fwd car

while driving a Mazda Mazda 3 MPS Luxury
I’ve had these on my 2011 Mazda 3 MPS Luxury for just over 3 years and have done roughly **55,000 km** on them.

Even now, they still have usable life left. The only reason I’m replacing them is because the **inside shoulders are worn down close to the belts due to a bad alignment / rotation issue**. If that hadn’t happened, I genuinely think I would have seen **another 10,000 km** out of them.

For a car like mine, that’s impressive. It’s running around **215 kW**, which is above stock, on **factory 18-inch wheels and stock suspension**, so I expected it to chew through tyres a lot faster than it did.

What impressed me most is that **even near the end of their life, they still grip extremely well**. Dry grip has stayed strong, wet grip has remained confidence-inspiring, and they still corner very well. They are starting to feel a little looser now as they’ve aged and worn down, but even in that condition they still put the power down far better than I expected.

I’ve run a range of premium tyres on this car over the years, and honestly these are **probably the best all-round tyres I’ve had on it**. Excellent grip, very predictable handling, surprisingly strong wear, and they held up far better than I expected on a tuned MPS.

The only downside is comfort — they’re not the quietest or softest tyre — but for the balance of grip, handling, and longevity, I’d absolutely buy them again.

If Pirelli still made these and they were easy to get, I’d happily run another set.

Even when worn out, they perform well in snow and ice but not in rain. They don't stand out in any way

Mounted on a Toyota GR86

Previous fits:
PS4 - Soft handling and safe overall, surprisingly low grip in the wet and cold
V107 - Sharp handling, great feedback, wear is on the higher side
F1SS (AO) - Tyre fitter ordered the wrong tyre, meant to be standard aftermarket F1SS, but AO spec was delivered and mounted. Audi OE spec seems to have ruined the tyre for the GR86, terrible with the AO spec. Unmounted in 6 months (6 months too long). Car is nervous right out the gate, mid summer and only got worse as temperature drops

Initial impression:

Amazing wet grip even in the cold with road grit, amazing dry grip as expected.
Sharp steering, at least on par with V107!
Feedback on limit might be a bit lower than the Advan Sport V107 but it would well be down to colder temperature in early March still.

No my track day car, dedicated car on Advan A052. So will be mostly on fast road and commute use.

THIS REVIEW IS FOR THOSE WHO ABUSE THAY TIRES ON DAILY BASIS

-Quick recap:

I drive mostly spirited on countryside beautiful tight technical and open fast roads.Tires are very good just slightly to planted rear (might be due to my current setup not being compatible with this tires as much). Dry/wet grip and handling is good (best in cold wet mornings becaus rear unlocks more so it becomes alot of fun power slideing in a FWD) better grip at -5°c than at +30°c after few hard corners especialy.. best heat resistance tires i had on my car to this day but still not enough for prolonged abuses of canstant hard cornering.
Wear is actualy very good for so much performance thay wear out at about 5.000km front 10.000km rear like any other tire.

-Longer version with better context

So my Alfa Romeo GT Q2 200hp
Is FWD with limited slip diff and passive rear steering, high double wishbone front and multilink rear suspension geometry.
Runing:
Front -1.9 camber, 0 toe
Rear -2.4 camber, slight toe IN
225/40r18x8J
Tire presure 2.4bar
Upgraded 19mm rear ARB
Strut brace on front suspension towers.
H&R springs

This tires are overall jack of all trades good comfort, handling and grip all year round from -10 to +35 °c (basicly under 5°c grip starts slightly droping but after -5°c grip very noticably drops off to the point you lose some confidence) Thay are slightly to prioritizeing to stability but still playful and agile so thay are very comfident at the limit and over the limit as resault, quit composite any any scenario.. i expected nothing but good quality from tham but i was mostly surprised by thair wear.. the wear is identical to any other tire but with noticable better performance so it looks like this are good with abuse and have good and high temperature tresholds but will become spongy after realy hard cornering for few minites.. so wear to preformance ratio is too good to be true i can comfortably make 5.000km on fronts and thay will look like picture below the outside edge has slight tread left (about under 1mm) while inner edge is geting to the rods.. and that wear is very even for such static camber i know double wishbone gains almost twice more dynamic camber compared to MacPhersone in corners so this wear is impresively even also on rears thay wear evenely witch that camber too. The sidewalls are stiff enough to stay stable during hard driveing if you do tight hairpins you will have some flex marks on the sidewalls but im not experiencing such extreme rollover to start geting wear marks on the letters and numbers on the sidewalls. But if you realy provoke it hard thay will roll over. I can create very progresive trailbraking rotation to the point you can feel the rear tire starts deforming and rolls over at peak forces if it doesnt slide into again very comfodent rear yaw... so as i sayed good allrounder for fast daily driver who loves abuse, great feedback, progresive break away especialy rear, front grabs for days into and out of corners car can rotate very well but for me i would love to have it more eazely provoked. Thay are the forst tires that i boight again.

Well, i bought 10/2025, 2x Hankook Ventus S1 Evo 3 which were used tires and i was amazed how nice they were, they felt sporty, sitff sidewall, very good tire to drive, it was DOT 2023, so 2 year old tire. Now i bought 4x Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires, also used , DOT 3023, and i am dissapointed. Tire feels like my car is worn completely. I feel like my front struts are dead. I swear i feel like my car is all over the road. Maybe when its new its 2 times better but used, more then 6mm tread its very dissapointing. My car is Golf mk6 GTD, and whenever i floor it from second gear it wheelspins. I warmed them up with a 15 min hard drive and still then they were sliding all over the place. I dont feel confident in my car anymore. I recommend them new, but used they are pretty rubish.

A little bit noisier on the road but beat my previous pilot sport 4S on traction. Excellent grip in the dry with minimal slip on a Stage 2+ Audi S3 even when launching.
Do not get the non 'S' variant - was fitted by accident at the tyre shop, had to return them within 48h, they have terrible grip.

These tires are awful. There's no sense of control, they don't transmit any feedback about the road surface. On dry roads, they lose a lot of grip during acceleration (my car is 150 hp).
In the wet, well, I haven't had any close calls, but given how they feel on dry roads, you're not going to push them in the wet.
The lifespan is very poor; after 12,000 km, the traction drops significantly. I would never buy them again. They're supposed to be high-performance, but they feel like cheap Chinese tires.
