2024 Motorhome Camper Van All Season Tyre Test

The 2024 Promobil camper van / motorhome all season tyre test has tested eight of the best all season tyres using a VW Transporter Van (T6.1) fitted out as a camper. The test looked at how these tyres perform in various conditions, including snow, wet, and dry roads. Key aspects such as braking distances, traction, and handling were examined to understand each tyre's capabilities.

As most tyre tests are conducted using a regular vehicle, this test provides insights into the performance of all-season tyres on a campervan style platform. Fortunately, not much has changed, with the all season tyres you'd expect to work well on a car also working well on a van style motorhome, with the Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Gen-3 and Michelin CrossClimate 2 leading the way.

The surprise of the test was the Giti GitiAllSeason AS1 SUV placing third, ahead of Pirelli, Falken and Vredestein. This is an impressive result for the quickly improving brand, and as the cheapest tyre on test it offers some real value.

The final thing to note is that Promobil did not include the Falken EuroAllSeason AS220 Pro in the final results as they tested a pre-production version and at time of publication had not verified the results with retail tyres. As the result is around where this tyre should be finishing, we have databased it in the overall results.

Dry

As we've come to expect from all season tyre tests, the Michelin CrossClimate 2 had a big advantage in dry braking.

The Giti GitiAllSeason AS1 SUV took a surprise win in dry handling, with the new Falken also placing well.

Wet

The Giti continued its excellent run by having the shortest wet braking distance, over half a meter ahead of the second placed Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Gen-3.

The Goodyear took back the top spot during the wet handling test.

The Goodyear was also the best in the wet circle test.

As we've come to expect from the "rain tyre", the Uniroyal AllSeasonExpert 2 had the best straight and curved aquaplaning resistance.

Snow

The Michelin was at its usual top spot in snow braking, with the Uniroyal and Goodyear also performing very well.

Michelin, Uniroyal and Goodyear were also at the top of snow traction.

Michelin was the fastest around snow handling with Pirelli jumping up to second place ahead of the Firestone.

Strangely Michelin dropped quite far down during the snow circle test, with the new Falken EuroAllSeason AS2 proving to be best.

Comfort

The Uniroyal and Giti proved to have the lowest noise, with the testers noting the Goodyear had the best comfort levels.

Value

The Michelin was back at the top, having the lowest rolling resistance of all the tyres on test.

Outstanding traction and best braking performance, along with stable cornering behavior on snow. Exceptional braking performance, sluggish but safe evasive behavior on dry roads.

On snow, relative to traction/braking, somewhat reduced corner grip. Longer braking distances and weak corner grip with slim margins on wet roads. Low inherent damping.

The Michelin, unbeatable in many aspects, only loses in the rain.

Corner grip, traction, and braking performance on snow are good. Very short braking distances and decent corner grip on wet surfaces, very good grip in dry corners, best rolling comfort.

Limitations in driving stability on snow-covered as well as on wet curves (oversteering). Inadequate aquaplaning prevention, somewhat unstable in the lane change test, and long braking distances on dry surfaces.

Shortest braking distances – unfortunately, only on wet surfaces.

The new Falken qualifies for lowland winter.
