The Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5 used to be the very top of Goodyear's ultra high performance summer tyre range, but this year Goodyear have launched the Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperSport, SuperSport R and SuperSport RS.

The new SuperSport sits above the Asymmetric 5 in the performance category, but is still firmly a road tyre, where as the SuperSport R and RS move the bias away from road and towards track use in steps.

In this video, I test the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5 against the new Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperSport and SuperSport R using a Ford Focus RS wearing 235/35 R19 tyres to see exactly what the differences are.

Watch the full test in the video below, or read on for the key data points from the test.

Dry

During dry braking, the track focused SuperSport R stopped in the shortest distance, with the SuperSport sitting between the R and Asymmetric 5.

    Hello,

I have a 2012 Lexus GS450H and looking for a new set of tyres. First of all i want to say thank you for your amazing reviews as it s very difficult to find some good advice. I live in England and i use the car mostly to travel and i like to push it sometimes as it has 340hp and can be pretty fun. I drive about 2000 miles a month on average, what tyre would you recommend me? 235/ 45 R18 98Y

    Many thanks in advance,
    Stephan.

The PS4S or Asymmetric 5 would be a good option depending on local pricing and how much you rate comfort.

Thank you! I had GY Asymmetric 3 on my old Z4 3.0i and i was very happy but after doing more research looks like Michelin’s is the better choice despite the higher price. I check at Costco and the guys they only did PS4S for 19” or bigger so i will have to go with the PS4. They have really good offers every 3 weeks. The comfort would be on the first place. Talking about comfort, what (good) options are out there for tyres with foam inside to reduce the noise/ improve comfort?

        Many thanks

Great review, thank you. I need new rubber for my Lexus GSF - large RWD V8. Daily driver + spirited mountain driving sometimes but no track time. Australian roads are no better than the UK, if not worse. Factory tyre was Michelin Pilot SS. Can’t decide bw PS4S, Asymm 5 & GY SuperSport. Your expert opinion would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

Sorry I missed the alert for this. How important is comfort? I think the default answer would be the PS4S

    Hey Jonathan...

I bought a Megane RS Trophy last year and after the first year of having fun the original Bridgestone S001 are shredded... So I need to find a new tire for this beasty hot hatch. (245/35 R19)

My opinion is the Bridgestoen Potenza is not the best option for a front drive with
limited-slip differential... it feels like the power is not on the road and the steering doesnt feel nice and pointy. Also the feeling for the road is not the best.

At the moment your videos on YT pushed me from Continental Sport Contact 6 and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S to the GY SuperSport and the Asymmetric 5...but I also have the Vredestein Ultrac Vorti in mind, but I cant find a comparison. Wich one would you recommend for a hot hatch... Thx!

F1 SuperSport or SportContact 6 for steering precision :)

        Thx for the fast response...
The lack of comfort and the increased wear and tear is therefore worth the handling and the dry grip you would say...

Noticed you mentioned below you would pick SS on a M240i.

Would you go with the Asym 5 or the SS for a Lexus IS200 turbo, which doesn't quite have the same levels of power and isn't something you would chuck into corners as much?

It depends what you're preference is, comfort or handling as that's the small differences between the two tyres :)

Thanks, have decided to go with the Asym 5 for just a little more comfort as I live in Singapore and I do mostly city driving plus the car won't be used on the track at all.

Will comment again with feedback after I've had the tyres on for a couple of months (including whether I wish I had gone for the SS instead).

Can't decide on the Goodyear Supersport, Asym 5 or Michelin PS4 for my BMW M240i. Running wider 18 inch BBS CH-R rims so could go to 255 rear (stock is 245) but the Goodyear Supersports are not available yet in this size. Which would you choose ?

SuperSport :) Check out the youtube channel this afternoon for SuperSport vs PS4S on an M2.

All four Tyres are due an upgrade from Asymetric 3 at the rear and MPSS up front on my 2016 M135i .

Looking for increased grip in the wet and overall better traction off the line, living in England as you know it rains forever. 50/50 split between commuter miles and spirited drives.

The Asymmetric 5 seems to be a great in the wet. However the Supersport seems to be the overall better performer. Stuck!

    #5547
    1. TyreReviews Daanish Shujaat archived

Tricky. The SuperSport might be marginally better in the wet, but the Asym 5 might be a slightly better tyre for those commuter miles.

As it's me, I'd always go for more UHP bias on an M135i, so go for the SuperSport. IT'll also feel more MPSS like on the front axle.

Brilliant! I appreciate the insight. I would go for the mps4 however its only available in 19' and above. The Supersports seem to be its direct competitor. Costco have a sale on Goodyear tyres tomorrow so will be grabbing myself a new set!! Excited! ?

I am very intersted to get the Asysmmetric 5 or the supersport for my Nissan 200SX S14. But they are not available in the same sizes.

I would like to drive 18 inch 225/40 in the front and 18 inch 245/35 in the back for road use. For drifting I switch back to my actual 17 inch 225 all around. The Suspension is setup relativly neutral for drifting with the 225s and I would like to get it more understeery for road use by only changing the wheels.

The Asymmetric 5 is available in 225/40 R18 and 245/35 R18 but the supersport is only available in as 225/40 r18. What would you suggest?

    #5533
    1. TyreReviews Marcus archived

If you're making the switch for stability, you'd be smart to match the same tyres all round as the Asym 5 and SS will have slightly different roll characteristics.

      #5534
      1. Marcus TyreReviews archived

Yes for sure. mix match of the the Tire type would be silly. But I am unsure to go with 225 SS all around or with Asm 5 225 front and 245 rear.

        #5535
        1. TyreReviews Marcus archived

On that sort of car I'd run 225 all round, 245 doesn't buy you MUCH more grip (check out the tyre width video we've done on this) and the SuperSport is a sportier feeling tyre

Great video! After having watched this and other two reviews you made (Michelin PS4/ PS4S/ PSS and UHP summer tire test), I have narrowed down to 2 options for my 2016 Focus RS (for 80% road and 20% track usage): Either Michelin's PS4S or Goodyear's F1 SuperSport.

A bit of a tough choice - which one would you chose (disregarding the price difference, as in my country there is none) :)

    Thanks in advance!

Good question. Both tyres are excellent, both are test winning, both are ok on track. It might come down to which brand you prefer if the price is the same!

Highly appreciate your swift reply! I will go for the ones with the most recent DOT I'll find in stock.
Either way, I will post a review in a few months, after the first track day (April) :)

So, for a dedicated track day Tyre (on which the car will also be driven to the track) would you recommend the Supersport or the Supersport R?
Also, how would you rate either of these against the Advan AD08Rs?

Sooo I dont know what wheel to fit, Goodyear F1 Supersport, or Michelin PS2 (they about same price). I am driving a FWD 180HP Seat Toledo 20VT and I exclusively drive in the streets, with high temperatures (Spain). I value confort and low noise. Maybe should I fit different brands in front and rear? Thanks for your videos and tests :)

Thanks. well I dont think old means worse, for instance PS2 is actually a lot better than PS3. But yeah I just fell in love with the F1 Supersport. Fortunately I didn't buy the Assymetric 5 last week haha (those are awesome tyres too anyway).

    No surprises, eh? ;)

I was very surprised here the Supersport was that much faster in the wet, when I expected it to be equal at best, or a bit worse to the A5. E.g. the PS4 and PS4S were equal in the tyrereviews test last year.

Amazing blend of wet and dry performance on the Supersport, very happy with mine and these tests confirm it's not me imagining things :)

Thanks for the test and vid!

Now confused, in the vid the SS was significantly faster than the A5 in the wet, but in the stats above they are the same? And times are different? @Tyrereviews

The tests were done on a 2 wheel drive car with moderate HP. How would the results differ on an 800wHp AWD supercar, since you can't really drift? Even with traction control turned off.

In theory the overall results would remain the same, but the more track focused tyres dry advantage might be slightly extended.
