There was a 2.1 meter spread between the best and the worst winter tyre.

Cheap tyre with stable handling on dry roads and low noise.
Significantly limited driving characteristics on snow and wet slopes, dangerously extended snow and wet braking distances, poor steering response, low aquaplaning reserves.
Not Recommended.

Interesting to see how the wintracs move up and down in different tests. I initially went for pilot alpin 5 for our GLE, but there was an issue with delivery so had to settle with the wintracs (and Nokians weren’t available in 315/40/21 and 275/45/21). Excited to see how they will perform in a lower Scandinavia winter.
Will you do a large SUV/wide tire review next year? Maybe a winter edition of the wide vs narrow tire as well?
I would also like to see eg the LM005, PA5, x-ice and R5 in the same test. There are a lot of tests in Scandinavia where they mock the “European” winter tires and say they are useless here and compare them to summer tires. It would be nice to see how they stack up against each other. Would make it easier for people to chose the right tire I think, as I’ve also started to pick tires that have better wet grip than snow and ice since there are only a few days of proper snow before they salt it all away.
