Nokian Remedy WRG5As the popularity of all-weather tyres rapidly grows in many areas of North America, Nokian has refreshed its offering to cater to this market. The new Nokian Remedy WRG5 replaces the much loved Nokian WRG4, and offers improved snow and ice traction, and higher levels of wet grip over the WRG4, without sacrificing rolling resistance or dry/wet handling.

As of right now we just have the press information below, but here at Tyre Reviews we're going to be pushing to get a test of this against its peers in the emerging all weather segment.

Launch Details

The Nokian Tyres Remedy WRG5 stands as a significant advancement in tyre technology, catering to the diverse driving conditions encountered throughout the year. Recognising the challenges faced by drivers in winter, this sixth-generation all-weather tyre provides a reliable solution.

Unlike standard all-season tyres, which are not optimised for colder, snowy conditions, the Remedy WRG5 is a certified four-season tyre, indicated by its three-peak mountain snowflake emblem. This certification assures suitability for snowy and slushy roads, in addition to rain and heat. Nokian Tyres, with a history of pioneering in this field, launched the first all-weather passenger tyre in North America 25 years ago.

The Remedy WRG5 addresses a critical gap in the market: while many drivers use all-season tyres, these are not designed for temperatures below 45 degrees Fahrenheit (7 degrees Celsius) or for snow and slush. This tyre offers a balanced performance across various weather conditions, ensuring safety and reliability.

Key Features of the Nokian Tyres Remedy WRG5:

  • Year-Round Traction: The tyre's rubber compound remains pliable in cold weather, ensuring consistent traction. The tread design is engineered for effective grip on various surfaces, whether dry, wet, snowy, or slushy.
  • Asymmetrical Tread Pattern: This feature enhances the tyre's ability to navigate through snow, rain, and slush, while also maintaining comfort and stability on dry roads.
  • Aramid Fibre Reinforcement: For the first time in an all-weather passenger tyre, the Remedy WRG5 includes puncture-resistant Aramid fibres in all sizes. This addition provides enhanced durability and a Pothole Protection warranty for added peace of mind.
  • Sustainability and Durability: The tyre is designed with sustainability in mind, evident in its ELECTRIC FIT™ symbol, indicating suitability for electric vehicles. It also comes with a treadwear warranty of 60,000 miles or 100,000 kilometres.

The Nokian Tyres Remedy WRG5 is produced in Nokian Tyres' North American factory in Dayton, Tennessee. This facility is set to reach its full capacity of producing up to four million all-season and all-weather tyres annually by 2024. The Remedy WRG5, available in over 70 sizes ranging from 15 to 20 inches, is exclusive to the North American market and will be available in tyre shops in the U.S. and Canada from this spring.

I really value your reviews and I don't yet see anything about the WRG5's. I'm trying to decide between them and the Michelin Cross Climate 2's. Do you know when you'll have them reviewed? Thanks!

I am facing dry rot with WRG-4 with under 30K miles, decent tread remaining, but sidewall and tread cracking. Had installed for 5 years, tires dated 6 years old. Had WRG-2 and WRG-3 on other car.

Rotated every 5,000 miles or less, balanced, alignment. The WRG-4 got progressively noisier and noisier. Now even balancing does not eliminate shimmy at certain speeds. Maybe belt broken?

Volvo dealer said must replace, no longer safe--rotate and balancing will not help. Tire dealer that did rotation and balancing also said has dry rot.

Wonder if Nokian will honor warranty. Going to authorized Nokian dealer to file a claim next week. If yes, will replace with WRG-5; if not, will get Michelin, Good Year, BFG or another brand and forget about Nokian. The WRG-2 was best, ergo became Nokian convert. The deterioration of G-4 over time is bad experience. Will G-5 correct the deficiencies of G-4?

I don't have a lot of experience with the WRG5 yet so can't answer, sorry. Did you have any luck with Nokian?

Hi there! Thank you for being a loyal Nokian Tyres supporter. We regret to hear of your experiences with the Nokian Tyres WR G4. Generally, after 10 years on a shelf or around 6 years in service, we would begin to be concerned about aging and recommend a thorough professional inspection of the tires by your trusted mechanic. Regarding your dry-rot experience, please feel free to email [email protected] as we will do our best with warranty options if you have not filed a claim yet.

As far as I'm aware they should be available now, there's online retailers selling them already.
