Bridgestone Turanza 6 vs Maxxis Premitra HP6

This is a telling match-up because it pits a “premium touring” flagship (Bridgestone Turanza 6) against a value-priced touring tyre (Maxxis Premitra HP6) that repeatedly behaves like a sporty road tyre. Across four major 2026 tests (Motor, Vi Bilagare, ADAC and an independent 225/45 R17 group test), the story isn't simply “premium wins”-it's more about what each tyre optimises: the Bridgestone leans hard into efficiency and longevity, while the Maxxis chases speed and sharper responses.

In objective grip metrics, the Turanza 6 most often wins outright braking (especially dry), and it dominates rolling resistance. The Premitra HP6, however, keeps appearing near the top for dry handling pace and usually posts stronger aquaplaning speeds. The catch is that multiple testers note a mismatch between the Maxxis's stopwatch pace and its at-the-limit behaviour-quick, but not always as predictable or confidence-inspiring as the best tyres (and sometimes not as harmonious as the Bridgestone).

Test Results

Independent comparison tyre tests are the best source of data to get tyre information from, and the good news is there have been four tests which compare both tyres directly!

Summary of four total tests comparing both tyres directly

Maxxis Premitra HP6one

While it might look like the Bridgestone Turanza 6 is better than the Maxxis Premitra HP6 purely based on the higher number of test wins, tyres are very complicated objects which means where one tyre is better than the other can be more important in real world use.

Let's look at how the two tyres compare across multiple tyre test categories.

Key Strengths

  • Best-in-group efficiency: rolling resistance advantage of ~16% in both 225/45 R17 tests (0.632 vs 0.758 kg/t; 6.46 vs 7.69 kg/t)
  • Significantly longer projected tread life (ADAC 55,600 km vs 37,200 km) plus lower abrasion (66 vs 76 mg/km/t)
  • Consistently strong braking results, especially in the dry (wins 3/4 shared dry-braking comparisons; typically ~2-3% shorter)
  • Generally lower measured noise than the Maxxis across tests (e.g., 72.8 vs 73.9 dB; 64.7 vs 65.0 dB; rough noise 73.5 vs 73.9 dB)
  • Faster handling pace with sharper steering feel (wins dry handling in 2 tests; independent test: 72.83 s vs 74.91 s)
  • Often stronger aquaplaning performance, especially straight aquaplaning (wins 3/4 straight-aqua comparisons; about +3.3% in 225/45 R17 tests)
  • Competitive braking in some datasets (ADAC: slightly shorter dry and wet braking; notably better wet braking on concrete: 38.1 m vs 40.2 m)
  • Strong value proposition in at least one major test context (Motor: cheapest tyre, only 0.4 points off the leader, with consistent mid-pack results and no glaring single-test failures)

Dry Braking

Best Review for the Bridgestone Turanza 6
Given 10% 215/50 R18 on a combination of roads for 200 average miles
Bought these based on reviews. Had all four previous Bridgestone Turanza (factory fitted 5 years ago when the car was new) replaced by these. When I drove from the garage they felt really planted and quiet. As I always check the tyre pressures when I get home after having new tyres fitted I left it a couple of hours to let them cool down. On initial inspection they looked like they needed more air in them. So I got the pump out and the gauge read 41psi (10psi more than recommended). I thought it was the gauge on the pump being faulty so I used another gauge only to find it was reading... Continue reading this review using the link below

Best Review for the Maxxis Premitra HP6
Given 73% 215/45 R17 on mostly country roads for 6,000 spirited miles
I have the OE version of the tire for BMW, which is a AAA version in 215/45 17. They were mounted on the rear axle of a Ford Fiesta ST Line 155 MH for testing.
Continental Premium Contact 6 tires are used up front.
The MAXXIS tires are very quiet, precise, and light. I'm convinced they're absolutely on par with the Continentals, as my car zips around fast corners with absolute neutrality and remains neutral with every load change.

Conclusion

On balance, Bridgestone Turanza 6 is the more rational “ownership” choice: it repeatedly leads on energy efficiency (rolling resistance advantage of ~16% in the 225/45 R17 tests) and is outstanding for projected wear (ADAC: 55,600 km vs 37,200 km for the Maxxis-about 49% longer). It also tends to be the quieter tyre on measured noise and is consistently strong in dry braking (e.g., 37.4 m vs 38.7 m in Motor; 37.45 m vs 38.66 m in the 225/45 R17 group test). If your priorities are range/fuel use, low running costs, and an easy-going touring character, the Bridgestone's overall pattern makes sense-despite some criticism of heat sensitivity and steering precision from ADAC and a lack of “top-tier” wet bite in the independent test notes.

Maxxis Premitra HP6 is the more “driver's” pick when you value agility and fast lap/handling times for the money. It is repeatedly quicker in dry and wet handling sections (e.g., Motor wet handling 73.1 s vs 75.2 s; independent test dry handling 72.83 s vs 74.91 s) and often posts better straight-line aquaplaning speeds (around +3.3% in both 225/45 R17 tests). However, two different sources flag a limitation: the tyre can feel track-sensitive/rear-biased and less predictable at the limit in the wet, and ADAC also dings it on overall handling quality and especially mileage. Practical takeaway: Turanza 6 is the smarter long-distance, high-mileage touring tyre; Premitra HP6 is the better value route to sharper responses-provided you're comfortable managing a livelier limit behaviour and potentially faster wear.
Key Differences
  • Efficiency and running costs: Turanza 6 clearly leads on rolling resistance (about 16% better in 225/45 R17 testing), translating to better fuel use/EV range potential
  • Wear/longevity: Turanza 6 is far ahead on predicted mileage (ADAC 55,600 km vs 37,200 km), making it the better high-mileage choice
  • Handling character: Premitra HP6 is typically faster on handling circuits, while Turanza 6 is more touring-oriented and often described as predictable/neutral rather than sporty
  • Wet behaviour at the limit: Maxxis can be quick objectively but scores worse subjectively in wet confidence in the independent test, and is described as tail-happy/less harmonious by Vi Bilagare
  • Braking emphasis: Turanza 6 more consistently wins dry braking (3 of 4 comparisons), but Maxxis can edge it in ADAC wet/dry braking and is notably stronger on wet concrete braking
  • Noise/comfort trade-off: Bridgestone tends to measure quieter; Maxxis is more often described as firm/noisy, although comfort results vary by test and size

Footnote

This page has been developed using tyre industry testing best practices. This means we are only comparing tests which have had both tyres in the same test.

Why is this important? Tyre testing is heavily affected by things like surface grip levels and surface temperature, which means you can only compare values from the same day. During a tyre test external condition changes are calculated into the overall results, but it is not possible to calculate this between tyre tests performed on different days or at different locations.

As a result you will see other tests on Tyre Reviews which feature both the %s and %s, but as they weren't conducted on the same day, the results are not comparable.

Lots of other websites do this sort of tyre comparison, Tyre Reviews doesn't.
