Continental PremiumContact 7If you're a regular reader of Tyre Reviews you'll know we're a big fan of the Continental PremiumContact 6's dynamic handling qualities, so we're super excited to announce the first sizes of the Continental PremiumContact 7 will be launched in the coming months! The only details we have so far can be found in the press release for the PC7 below, but rest assured Tyre Reviews is working on being the first to independently test the new PremiumContact 7.

Press Release

  • Continental: PremiumContact 7 to be launched this autumn
  • Successor to the popular PremiumContact 6 offers maximum safety and comfort
  • Developed for vehicles of all drive types
  • First sizes of the new PremiumContact 7 available in autumn

The new PremiumContact 7 will be available to dealers as early as autumn 2022. With new technologies and design adjustments, the handling, braking ability and ride comfort of the PremiumContact 7 have once again been improved compared to its predecessor. During development, Continental placed great emphasis on designing an all-rounder tyre for combustion engine, electric and hybrid vehicles.

The PremiumContact 7 is preceded by the award-winning PremiumContact 6. Since its release in 2016, the PremiumContact 6 has secured many awards in the UK and Europe, with recent wins including first place in the Tyre Reviews 2020 Ultimate Summer tyre test and Best Tyres for Large Family Cars in the 2022 DriverReviews Customer Choice Awards.

The PremiumContact 7 will build on these successes. With 50 sizes available by the end of the year, the PremiumContact 7 will cover a wide variety of different vehicles.

It would be cool if you could also include Dunlops newly released SP Sport Maxx 060+ when you test this new PC7.

If I'm not mistaken, this would make 4 new UHP tyres in 1 year (Michelin PS5, Goodyear Assym 6, Conti PC7, and Dunlop SP SM 060+). This is a good year (ha) for UHP tyres.

Given this is the first I've heard about it I assume it's not coming to Europe and is an eastern model.

Conti SC7 is within the year and PC7 is coming, but the PC7 perhaps won't be as UHP as last time.

Hi there, you say that; " the PC7 perhaps won't be as UHP as last time."

If this happens, the Conti brand will no longer have a any UHP tyres on the market., isn't that very interesting?

There will be only the UUHP model (Sport Contact 7) on the production line. but as you know the SC7 is not manufactured smaller than 18" size., and as a result the SC7 is not a UHP tire. it is a UUHP tire.

        Regards.

Firstly, that was a total guess based on where the market is moving and the perceived weaknesses of the PC6, but we'll find out soon enough :)

I believe the SC7 will be rolling out in a few more 18" sizes in the future, but you're right it could certainly leave a gap around uhp 17" size which couldn't be met by Conti in the EU.

As always, I'll try and be the first to test the PC7 and I really hope I'm wrong as the PC6 was one of my favorite tyres.

Hi there, you says that; "that was a total guess based on where the market is moving and the perceived (weaknesses) of the PC6."

Can you give me a brief summary of the PC6's weaknesses? if you share your valuable experience with us.,

            According to my experience;
            PremiumContact 6
            225/45 R17 91Y
            225/50 R17 94Y

it's really good tire that is unaffected by different driving conditions., I was quite satisfied on dry and wet surfaces, but i wasn't very satisfied with its comfort on rough roads.(compared to PremiumContact 5 and SportContact 5)

I remember the Conti's slogan when this tire was first introduced was; (a new level of comfort)

But i've used PC5 and SC5 in the past., and these 2 tires were better than PC6 in terms of comfort, it's a little hard rubber tire and i was not satisfied with its comfort.,

Many people say that it's a "very noisy" tire. I have used this tire during the 4 years and haven't had any noise problems.

I'm not sure if it's worth wasting time waiting for PC7's test results. it also seems like it will take at least 4-5 months for all sizes to be released.,

This time my choice seems to be the new Michelin Pilot Sport 5

What do you think if we compare Michelin PS5 and Conti PC6 in terms of comfort..?

            Best regards..

The weaknesses were as you said, comfort, and I never found it to be class leading in the wet.

Comfort is certainly improved on the PC7, I wouldn't know how it compares to the PS5 though. In theory, they'd be quite similar.

I meant if it compares to the old version Conti PC6

I just wanted to mean, what do you think about if we compare new Michelin Pilot Sport 5 and old version Conti PremiumContact 6 in terms of comfort..?

                Regards..

Given Bridgestone have the Potenza Sport available down to 16" sizes, it's annoying that Continental, Michelin, Goodyear, Hankook etc don't make their UUHP tyres also available down to smaller sizes in my opinion.

I think Bridgestone make the 205/55 R16 and 245/45 R16 combo specifically for the original Honda S2000, though the lack of a 225/50 R16 will be problematic for other 16"-shod sportscars like a 80's Porsche 911 or Mazda RX7 FD.

It's doubly frustrating when a 205/55 R16 and 225/50 R16 combo IS available for older 911s in the new North American-market Conti Extreme Contact 02, yet it is not available in the European-market Conti Sport Contact 7.

You can even get the PS4S in 16" in North America :(

Hello. Maybe it won't be so bad: „Wet handling has been improved by 5 percent, wet braking by as much as 7 percent, and aquaplaning by 2 percent. The PremiumContact 7 now achieves an “A” wet grip class rating on the EU tire label. Dry handling and braking were both improved by 3 percentage points”

If you're talking about the PC7 I now know it's very good :)

I think the SP Sport Maxx 060+ is meant to be Sumitomo's new flagship Dunlop tyre, but with a treadwear rating of 400, it doesn't seem clear if it is even a UHP tyre let alone a UUHP! I wonder why Sumitomo stick with the shared (with Goodyear) Sport Maxx branding, instead of using their own Direzza branding which they use in Japanese motorsport? I think it's a shame that Sumitomo don't have a UUHP tyre to bridge the gap between this and the track day Direzza Z3, or between the Falken FK520 and track tyre Falken RT660.

    @TyreReviews:disqus hi there.,
Has the launch of the PremiumContact 7 been announced.? or when is the press launch date known.?

My tires are almost dead. I need to buy tires in 1-2 weeks. so I wonder when exactly it will be introduced.?

My car's current tires are Conti PC6 and i'm curious about the new model. Has your first test date been determined.?

    Other questions is;
My wife's car has not been used for 9 months. It lies in my house (in my fully closed garage) without moving. I inflated the tires regularly. I have never let the pressures of the tires drop. but as I said the car didn't move at all.,

Could this cause damage to the surface of the tires in contact with the ground.? I wanted to get information about the damaged rubber or wires. Note: the tires 6 and a half years old and at 15.000 miles and tread depth: 5,5 mm (Dunlop Sport Maxx RT)

I will be glad if you share your valuable experience.,

    Best regards,
    Miray

Regarding the press date, I'm not sure anything is official yet but it will likely not be this year, but some will be on the market very soon if not already.

It's really difficult to know about tyre damage without seeing them in the flesh, however there's definitely been tyres sat like that longer and used. Go drive on it and see if it's out of shape.

We use machines to measure rolling resistance accurately then that can be calculated back to the vehicle impact.

    Two suggestions:
First, compare with the PC6 across the spread of disciplines.
Second, compare with what you judge to be the best of extant rivals in those disciplines (e.g. lateral aquaplaning?) you take the PC6 to be weakest in.

I'll be testing the PC7 ASAP and I'll do my best to find out the improvements over the PC6 in detail

Do you know what sizes the tire will be released in?
Specifically, will 16 inch sizes be available (like PC6)?

I don't have a full size list yet but i can certainly confirm there will be 16" sizes!

No, it's from a neighbor. I was also surprised, I thought it wasn't for sale yet, or else he's some special customer.
